About

I grew up in Los Feliz and spent my summers in Bolivia, with my grandparents and cousins. That is where all of this comes from.

I have been designing and manufacturing clothes since 1992. ARZÉ started in 2008.

My main partner is an atelier in Bolivia I have worked with for close to twenty years. Mostly women, and some exceptional men who work in textiles. They are paid fairly. Twenty years is the part that matters — it is not a relationship you can set up in a season, and it is the reason the clothes are what they are. I have also worked with artisans in Peru, and will continue.

The alpaca and the pima cotton come from Peru, where the fibre is best prepared. The garments are hand-loomed, hand-knit and hand-woven in Bolivia. Nothing is made in quantity, because hand-work does not come in quantity — a coat takes days to make on the loom. Some pieces exist once.

I design for the way I dress. One layer, can be worn all week, kept for years.
